Murder of William Roberts, glover, otherwise William the glover, prosecutor's husband, by beating him about the head with a wooden club. Partisan feelings were running high in 1734 when Sir John Glynne and Sir George Wynne ran a bitter campaign to win votes for borough election to Parliament. According to Peter D. G. Thomas, 'Sir George Wynne and the First Borough Elections of 1727 to 1741', Flintshire Historical Society, vol 20, (1962), prisoner was 'a Wynne' prepared to kill 'a Glynne'. Indicted twice for the fact, the other - no. 15 in this file - for manslaughter. Robert Jones, Thomas Morris, John Lewis, implicated according to recognizances. The death followed an affray after neighbours had been drinking together. more
