Recognizances indicate that Mary his wife was also to be indicted. She is described as a 'desperate ill woman, a known and notorious thief lately tried for her life and burnt in the hand'. oth prisoner and wife indicted for the theft of a smoothing iron on the same day (no. 5). Depositions show, however, that this took place in the spring of 1729. more
