Brecon, Llanafan Fawr

Inciting to murder Thomas Price, Llanafan Fawr, yeoman, prosecutor's husband, who was strangled, beaten and struck by his son Lewis Lewis the younger. Another son, Thomas Lewis, turned King's evidence (see 4/388/8). Corpse thrown into pool; retrieved later. Prisoner and son 'drew the Corpse to Land...put corpse into a large Bag and brought it on a Horse to [son's] House and these burnt it'. 'Part of the Bones...were put...into a Sack' by prisoner, and two sons, burned and scattered in garden. Prisoner had promised sheep to his sons for carrying out the murder. Prisoner escaped/fled to Dolgellau, co. Mer.** more

Murder of Thomas Price, Llanafan Fawr, yeoman, prosecutor's husband, by strangling, beating and striking him. Prisoner indicted with father; another brother implicated, Thomas Lewis, not indicted, who turned King's Evidence - see 4/388/8. Prisoner's father had promised sheep in return for carrying out the murder. Before the corpse was thrown 'in one of the two Varlen pools', prisoner took deceased's purse. Seven months later, prisoner's brother saw corpse 'about a foot under water'. Prisoner and father 'drew the corpse to Land...put corpse into a large Bag and brought it on a Horse to [prisoner's] House and there burnt it'. Prisoner indicted with Lewis Lewis the younger, Llanafan Fawr, yeoman. Prisoner brought cord used to strangle deceased and 'gave [deceased] a blow on the pit of the stomach', then, with Lewis Lewis and his brother 'carried the corpse to the pool and threw him in'.
