The accused described as a 'very sober, diligent, honest and industrious man' received a private collection, made in Wrexham, to enable him to defend his prosecution. In another affadavit, the prosecutor, having received a sum of money from a society or club of tradesmen in Wrexham, 'formed for the support of each other', was expelled from the same, the members pledging to support the prisoner if he was the victim. more
