Crime
Brecon, Brecon
Neglect of duty by taking recognizance from a felon, Thomas Williams the younger, Brecon, tailor (see no. 1 in 4/384/1) who absconded to London, then to Bristol and Bath. Accused caused an advertisement in the Gloucester Journal, 12 May 1767 with a description of the said deserter, the felon having deserted from the Breconshire militia offering a guinea reward besides what was allowed by Act of Parliament for apprehending deserters. A copy of the newspaper was sent to London and shown via Walter Jeffreys, London, esq. to Sir John Fielding, requesting him to set his people to apprehend him. Accused stated that when the Breconshire Militia were discharged, he thought Sir John Fielding would stop pursuing Thomas Williams alias Gibbon as a deserter. more
