Theft of personal goods, silver tea tongs. According to the captains of the [Breconshire] militia, prisoner was a deserter. Prisoner absconded to London, Bristol and Bath. George Devereux, alderman, who took prisoner's recognizance advertised in the Gloucester Journal, 12 May 1767 with a description of the deserter offering a guinea reward as well as what was allowed by Act of Parliament for apprehending deserters. A copy of the newspaper was sent to London and shown via Walter Jeffreys, London, esq. to Sir John Fielding, requesting him to set his people to apprehend him. George Devereux stated that when the Breconshire Militia were discharged he thought the said Sir John Fielding would drop pursuing the prisoner as a deserter. more
